Yom Hazikaron

Yom Hazikaron, or Remembrance Day, is a day dedicated to commemorating the memory of all those who fell in the struggle for the creation and defense of the state of Israel.

It takes place during the 24 hours before the Yom Haatsmout, the day of Israel’s independence.

Sunday, April 30, 2017, from 19h everything will be closed in Israel.

This year, Yom Hazikaron begins on Sunday, April 30 (evening) and ends the following evening (Monday, May 1)
A siren sounds twice during Yom Hazikaron.
-> Sunday April 30 at 8 pm
-> Monday, May 1 at 11 am
Any activity, including traffic, ceases immediately. People leave their cars, even in the middle of the highways, and observe a minute of silence in memory of the sacrifice of those who died while defending Israel.

Commemorative ceremonies will take place on Sunday, April 30 and Monday, May 1, in which gatherings, readings of poetry and alternate events around grief and memory will take place.
