Yom Hazikaron, or Remembrance Day, is a day dedicated to commemorating the memory of all those who fell in the struggle for the creation and defense of the state of Israel.
It takes place during the 24 hours before the Yom Haatsmout, the day of Israel’s independence.
Tuesday, April 17, 2017, from 7pm everything will be closed in Israel.
This year, Yom Hazikaron begins on Tuesday, April 17 (evening) and ends the following evening (Wednesday, April 18)
A siren sounds twice during Yom Hazikaron.

Any activity, including traffic, ceases immediately. People leave their cars, even in the middle of the highways, and observe a minute of silence in memory of the sacrifice of those who died while defending Israel.
Commemorative ceremonies will take place on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday18 April in which gatherings, readings of poetry and alternate events around grief and memory will take place.

The “Songs in the Square” performance in memory of the fallen has already become an urban tradition.
Featuring Lior Ashkenazi, Eviatar Banai, Ethnix, Daniel Salomon and Dana Adini, Hanan Ben Ari, Yehuda Poliker, Yasmin Levy, Lior Narkis, The Tractor Revenge, Subliminal, Sapir Saban, Ivri Lider and Shlomi Shabat.

A community memorial ceremony marking the personal story
at 19:00 in the Culture Square, Habimah place
The program includes: reading of memoirs written and read by residents of Lev Tel Aviv, children’s choirs.
The ceremony is in memory of the Tami Community Center, the Gay Center, the Balfour School and the Gavrieli School.
